Happy Fall Y'all!
As a neighborhood, we say "goodbye" to the pool but "hello" to falling leaves and pumpkins on the porch. Seasonal activities this year will undoubtedly look a little different, but there are always ways to build community. Halloween is on Saturday the 31st and we hope you can participate in some way to make this a great Halloween for the kids. If you are participating in trick or treat for the neighborhood kids, remember to leave your porch light on. If not, please turn your porch light off so you will not be disturbed.
Following the CDC guidelines, here are some Halloween-related recommended safety tips:
-
Participate in "one-way trick-or-treating" where individually wrapped goodie bags or portioned out pieces of candy are spread out for kids to grab and go while continuing to social distance. Tables may be placed at the end of a driveway or at the edge of your yard to prevent face to face contact and congestion at porches.
-
If you would prefer to not trick or treat but still want to be out and about, the CDC also recommends a Halloween scavenger hunt where children are given lists of Halloween-themed things to look for while they walk outdoors from house to house admiring Halloween decorations at a distance. "Can you find spiders, skeletons, cauldrons, and all things spooky?"
The costume contest will have to be cancelled this year due to the crowd size and inability to distance as recommended. Instead, the contest will occur virtually this year with an added pumpkin Carving category! All neighbors are encouraged to participate by submitting costume and pumpkin pictures and also by voting the next day on Facebook. Please submit your costume and pumpkin pictures to MapleRidgeNewsletter@gmail.com or simply text to 404-514-1183 by midnight on October 31st for the following categories:
-
2 year old and under
-
3-4 year old
-
K-1st grade
-
2nd-3rd grade
-
4th-5th grade
-
Middle School
-
High School
-
Pumpkin Carvings (new!)
All submitted pictures will be posted on the Maple Ridge Facebook page by the HOA board within these categories so please note the category with your pictures. To make voting easier, just one kid/pumpkin per picture please. Winners will be chosen by the community by November 2nd and posted in the November newsletter. Prizes will be awarded for top winners in each category!
We hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween season!
Warm regards,

I wanted to say a HUGE shout out to everyone who came to my rescue in December when Eric passed away so suddenly. I cannot say it enough, but Thank you to each and everyone from the bottom of my heart!! It has been a hard year and lots of learning going on by the 3 of us.
